Week 1 of 52: Verafin (Happy Ron!?)

So Ron was on my back today to get a post in for my first week of Project 52 (he’s so naggy).  So anyways, here it is…

I’ve been thinking about what to do for my first post.  A couple ideas had come to mind.  The first was my wife – I take lots of pictures of her (because she’s lovely and because she’s nearby) so it made sense.  I also took pictures of her this week which worked for this project.  But alas I thought this might be too ‘easy’ and undoubtedly she’ll be profiled more than once this year so I figured I’d hold off for now.  The second idea was our cat – Bakeapple.  She is a cat so she’s cute but also annoying (at times).  I’ve got lots of pictures of her as well, since she too is cute and nearby.  Again, this seemed too easy and I’m sure I’ll be doing a set or two on her or cats in general so I figured I’d save it for a week when I was stuck.  So that leaves me with choice #3… Verafin, my workplace.

Verafin is a pretty cool company.  We’re a Newfoundland company making industry leading software that’s in use all over North America and we’re doing really well!  I also get to work with lots of great people and even lots of people that I’ve worked with before at a previous tech company (before it’s untimely demise).  We all have multiple monitors and laptops and beefy machines and tv’s and ipads and iphones and playstation 3′s all around and …etc (people wonder how we get work done or if I work for one of those companies that exist in TV shows but not in real-life).  We do do work, and we are indeed real.

Since I’m kinda into this photography thing, I bring my camera with me to work sometimes.  Thankfully most of the peeps I work with are pretty cool about me taking pictures (or they don’t know I’m going to be posting them on the internets – wait till they read my twitter/facebook/buzz feed!!).  So here are a few pictures from today and a couple select pics from previous work days as well.  I’ll try to add comments to the pictures to let you know who is who and what’s going on.

The pictures following are some of the people that I get to interact with daily.  Most of them are hilarious and are much better at their job than I (I have candy though, so it kind of evens out).  Lighting is bad inside any office, so please excuse the slight grain and possibile fuzziness of  some pictures (have to use a wide aperture to get anything sensible).

Anyways I hope you enjoy my first post of my Project 52.  I’ve been working for 2 hours now on pictures and text for this thing… I’m glad I’m not doing this every day!!

Note: Rob Norris took a couple of the pictures from today, and while that means I didn’t technically take them, I did edit them and he was using my camera… that’s gotta account for something!!!

Give the people what they want Samwise – more pictures of Rick!

P.S. Awesome post – love the humour.

Nice series! My favourites are the ones were the subject also has an item of note with them, on them, near them and where they are caught mid-self. Shallow depth of field does not always a great photo make. ;)

Thanks for all the comments Gillian. You have a very good eye – I’m definitely not real exact with some of my Lightroom work. Still working on my composition.

For the record: I’m not naggy. I was just looking out for the interests of all the other followers. Someone had to step up and keep you on track with the challenge :)

In all seriousness though, great post. A very enjoyable read as always.

Nice set. These shots have a lot of fun character. I look forward to seeing more. I somehow managed to dodge your photo shoot. That wasn’t intentional ;)

So you finally realize that Ron is naggy. Congratulation, now you are a real integrator :)
